Peter Holland certainly wasn't an NHL star. He was, however, an NHL player with the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs for 269 games and that's still certainly worthy of note.
Holland recently announced his retirement from hockey after 12 pro seasons - he was skating in Sweden with Djurgardens IF this season - and the 31-year-old center, who was lucky enough to fashion himself an NHL career included a bit of parting wisdom for hockey parents who are funneling their kids into a hockey-only sporting lifestyle.
Don't do it, was Holland's message.
"If I can offer any advice to parents of young hockey players out there; let them decide how much they want to play," Holland stated via his Twitter feed. "I played multiple sports growing up - it was never just hockey. I played flag football, basketball, volleyball, competed in track and field, golf and competitive soccer.
"I truly believe I loved hockey as long as I did because I didn’t burn out of it. If your kids are lucky enough for hockey to become a job that’s great - but I promise they’ll miss the days when it wasn’t!"
